Oil and Wax finish. Handmade by Stephen McRae so dimensions, colour and shape may vary. This lovely shy but always busy small British bird is captured beautifully in this hand forged design. Individually heated in a gas fired forge to around 1000 degrees Celsius, each 3mm thick steel cut out is forged and formed over the anvil using a handheld cross pein hammer. Therefore, each wren despite its uniform cut out shape is given its own individual 3-dimensional shape. It is then welded onto a 6mm diameter round steel rod 1200mm long which has previously been forged to have a hook ideal for hanging birdfeeders (coconuts, fatballs) and small lanterns from.

Each wren is given a sand and polish before coating in an environmentally user-friendly vegetable-based oil and wax finish. Left outside exposed to the elements this design will oxidise slowly leaving a lovely natural finish more in keeping with a wren's plumage. If you wish to keep the whole wren pristine and original in appearance, then we recommend you regularly oil and wax it or treat with any clear protective lacquer (sprayed or painted on).
